Awkward Encounters

I would just like to take the time to reveal to you guys that I am the queen of awkward. Not in the sense that I am unable to handle strange situations, but in fact quite the master of them! Aha, admit it, upon reading that you thought me to be some sort of anti social girl who stumbles through life with one awkward situation at a time. Any who, perhaps it is living in Los Angeles or being strangely observant that has given me the "ability" to sense something strange from a mile away and sail through it perfectly with a smile....or with a complete look of horror.

A couple of weeks ago my mom and I went to our local electronics store to inquire about a laptop. The sales rep who helped us was extremely informative, and no later than 20 minutes of being with him was giving us the best inside tips. He seemed to be a nice gentlemen. We exchanged small talk then got into deeper conversations about life in general. I noticed his co-workers (around the same age of 20 something) enclosing around him and making strange sounds at the same time eyeing me whenever I passed by. One guy in particular who I noticed had been intently listening, I mean ease dropping to our conversation, was asking him to play rock paper scissors pretty aggressively. I came back and the sales rep, let's call him "Peter", starts hurriedly asking me questions while my mother signs some papers. Almost on cue the ease dropper abruptly introduces himself and brings me over to his desk to discuss switching to a new internet provider. Before I have time to object Mr. ease dropper goes on into his pre memorized sales script and just throws himself WAY out there. Mind you, I barely get a word in besides an, "oh really", "umm","I don't think.." before he lists how much he benches, his exes that looked exactly like me, and a plea for him to call him about "what internet provider to use"...the guy used actual air quotes when he said this. I am ashamed to say that I was unable to use my acting skills because my mind was unable to recognize this new type of awkwardness.

Meanwhile, Peter comes to my "rescue". My mother is just about finished making transactions, while Peter, with a whole change of tone gets straight to the point. He faces my mother and I and says, "You know, this might be somewhat embarrassing for you that I am saying this in front of your mother, but I can't help to say how much of a beautiful person you are inside and out. I would like to get to know you more, do you think I can get your number so I can take you out sometime?" Well, you know me, with my "high expertise" in awkward situations I ended up smiling and nodding through this declaration...until my brain actually processed what he said. I really give him the  points for having the guts to say this in front of my mother and I figured why not. I was a bit embarrassed to be honest but I laughed and thought that there had to be a first time for everything. We exchanged contact info and right before leaving he informed us of a wireless internet product that I could inquire about in a few months..then haughtily added, "I get like fives dates a week with the ladies using this baby". I started at him for what seemed an entirety, laughed awkwardly, then walked casually out the store and tossed his number in the trash. Peter called and left me a few voicemails throughout the week while I laughed in complete disbelief.

Awkward Situation Pics
My best guy friend ask me out and wanted to capture my face to see my expression.....I was mortified (Luckily it was a joke because he is totally into guys)
GRRR! If you must know I was doing a presentation and this stupid pic randomly showed up!!  My professor and
classmates laughed while I died a little inside
Good thing I was wearing a bathing suit underneath because my loose shorts just fell off  right before our official sailing picture

*Please note my use of sarcasm, as it is pretty evident that sometimes just smiling and laughing through awkward situations can make it even more awkward....
